In spring of 1969 the 3.0 litre Tipo 33/3, an addition to the 33/2 was released. A number of well known racing drivers such as Nanni Galli, Rolf Stommelen, Andrea de Adamich and others were piloting the Tipo 33/2 and 33/3 on famous European and American race tracks. Although those times were dominated by the 5 litre Porsche 917 race cars, the 3 litre Alfa Romeos achieve good results. In 1971 three races were even won: Targa Florio, Brands Hatch and Watkins Glen. In 1972 a Tipo 33/4 with a 4 litre engine was developed and raced in Australia.
