The 1963 Corvette was the first year of the second generation "C2" named as Sting Ray. It was also the only year that had a split rear window with a thin piece of fiberglass ran from the top to the bottom of the window creating the image of two windows.
Independent rear suspension was fitted from the 02 generation. Body material remained fiberglass with an inner frame work of steel reinforcements around the door and under the cowl. The side curved window, retractable headlamps, cowl-top ventilation and boat-tail taper were new features of the car. Air conditioning, power steering, power brake and power windows could be fitted as optional. Drum brakes were still used and sintered metallic lining and finned aluminum brake drums were offered as optional. The basic engine was 327 ci with 250 hp mated with a 3-speed manual gearbox. A total of 21,513 units were built in 1963.
